Social Impact Assessment (SIA)

The process of identifying, predicting, evaluating and responding to the social impact of a proposed development. We assess the impact of development on people, mitigating negative impacts and enhancing positive impacts.

SIA is required for developments that are likely to cause significant social change, such as:

  • Large residential developments
  • Entertainment venues
  • Childcare centres
  • Significant community opposition
  • Cost of works exceeds a given cap
  • Otherwise at Council discretion
  • To accompany Environmental Impact Assessment for State significant development and State significant infrastructure
